Ever wondered which companies perform better? Companies with a 5 day working week or a 6 day working week. There is an interesting story for by a former entrepreneur on working days in a week and productivity of a company. You'll know the answer when you finish reading his post. Alok Rodinhood Kejriwal, a digital entrepreneur shares his story.
When I started up, I was kinda stuck-up and had this typical "baniya" mentality of working 6 days. It was my legacy training from factory days and attending very typical Marwari offices. My COO Thota Ranganath who came in from Pepsi asked me in week 1 of his joining "Alok, how many Fortune 500 Company's work 6 days? Do we want to be a Fortune 500 Co or a 6 day Company?". That was the year 2000 and we switched to a 5 day working. 17 amazing years later, I think it was the best decision I could have made. My humble belief: - people actually perform better if you give them 2 days to 'breathe' - there is quality in thinking - not just doing. Thinking happens when you are at rest. Not being a sandwich in a local train. - productivity is about getting "better" not about "more". Better needs relaxation. (Ps - this is a post for employees not founders) ~ Rodinhood.
