How to drive traffic using Pinterest

Pinterest is a free website that requires registration to use. Users can upload, save, sort, and manage images—known as pins—and other media content (e.g., videos) through collections known as pinboards. Pinterest acts as a personalized media platform. Users can browse the content of others in their feed.

Every day Pinterest search drives millions of visits to other sites through referral traffic. Pinterest has more than 150 million registered users, out of which more than 110 millions are active users. Females are the dominant group on Pinterest with around 71% female users and 29% male users. And average numbers of minutes users spend on Pinterest per month is around 98 Minutes.
We have compiled a list of ways that will help you drive traffic to your website using Pinterest.

1. Name your profile and confirm your website: Include the name of your business in your profile name and in your username, if possible. Confirm your account so that your profile appears higher in profile search results. Provide a description of your business and the type of stuff you Pin.

2. Get the official Pin It button: Increase the chances of your Pins appearing in search results by installing the Pin It button. The more times Pinners add things from your website, the more credibility it has, which means it has a better chance of appearing in search results. Make sure to pre-fill suggested descriptions with useful text on your website, too. Pinners frequently keep the suggested descriptions.

3. Use Rich Pins: This is a powerful way to increase both your search impressions and clicks. Rich Pins add more textual content to your Pins, helping them rank better. Rich Pins have extra information and stand out more on the grid, helping drive clicks.

4. Ensure link quality: Make sure your Pins link back to relevant, high-quality content that includes the Pin image or video. Pins with spammy and irrelevant links are frequently demoted.

5. Write compelling, targeted descriptions but careful with hashtags: Optimizing your Pin descriptions can have a dramatic effect on Pinterest search impressions. Try to anticipate what Pinners might be looking for and include these terms in your Pin descriptions. Make sure the description also includes any other important details about the Pin. Surfacing your Pins in search results is only half the battle: your description has to encourage Pinners to engage with your Pin and eventually visit your site. Keep in mind that Pins with generic, keyword-stuffed descriptions are off-putting to people and may be demoted in search. The same is true for hashtags—having too many of them in your descriptions may negatively impact your ranking.

6. Craft useful board names and descriptions: To surface your boards on Pinterest’s board search, use meaningful names that Pinners are likely to search for. Have a mix of both boards with specific names. Don’t forget to write compelling and targeted descriptions of your boards, too, and add to them frequently to keep your followers engaged and to make your boards easier to discover.

7. Increase engagement: Grow a following of engaged Pinners that interact with your Pins and see them on their home feeds. You can add the Follow button to your site and promote your profile and boards with widgets and email campaigns.

8. Keep it fresh: Pin daily to maintain a healthy stream of content but be careful not to overwhelm your followers with too much content at once. You want Pinners to engage and interact with your Pins on a daily basis.

9. Find your niche: If you think Pinterest is only about fashion and recipes, think again. Pinners frequently search for tattoos, humor, art, sports and travel, too. High search volumes and low competition in these topics can be attractive to businesses that want their content to be more discoverable in search. What if your business is in a category that’s more competitive? Find your niche. 

Pinterest Analytics
Use Pinterest Analytics to see what Pins people like, what they save from your website and learn more about what your customers really want. To get Pinterest Analytics, you’ll need a business account first. If you’re already using a personal Pinterest account for your business, you can easily convert it to a business account.

Once you have a business account, you can find Pinterest Analytics by going to your profile, clicking the gear menu or by clicking on Analytics.

Pinterest has a built-in analytics platform. It is available to anyone with a business account who has registered their website with Pinterest. This allows Pinterest to track traffic between the two sites.
Pinterest Analytics allows you to track a range of metrics. It splits the analysis into your pin activity on Pinterest itself, your audience activity, and which pins are driving traffic to your website.
